Bitso was the first crypto exchange in Mexico, and this positioned the company in top of market. At that time, Bitso owned 98% of the total market share, so everything related to crypto in Mexico was related to Bitso.
This meant that the crypto community in Mexico was a great fan base for Bitso. We always monitored the conversations of the community and quickly found out a very clear pattern from the conversations in our telegram chat with our community: They wanted the same control and tools they can have in our web product, but for mobile.
The goal of this project was to align and to set a desired future state for a single stop shop crypto product. As we had different business units working on different product initiatives at the same time, it was necessary to create a unified end to end vision on how the product would be in the future.
Understanding shared goals and specific needs
The customer base Bitso had at the moment was really broad. We had new clients experimenting with crypto for the first time as well as seasoned professional traders, all of the using the same products at the same time.
We ran several interviews to gain detail about how our products were solving or not, their needs regarding investing with crypto. All of these findings were translated into three user personas that allowed us to communicate with the whole company about our target users and their specific needs.
A trust based approach with progressive discovery
A common finding we gathered was that all users wanted that the platform adapted to its knowledge level. The beginners wanted to have tutorials and educational content before depositing into its account. The advanced users wanted to go straight into the action.
But the customization was not only about knowledge, it was also about the transaction types they wanted to do. For some quick conversions, users wanted a quick trading interface, while for larger transactions, they wanted the full analysis features.
The objective of the project was to try to provide users full control over their experience during its crypto journey.
